Terms of Service
Effective 12 September 2026 · Applies to the Emma — Voice Keyboard app
The short version: dictate freely, subscribe if you want the full experience, and don't misuse the service. Here's the complete version.
01Acceptance of these terms
By downloading, installing, or using Emma — Voice Keyboard ("Emma," "the app"), you agree to these Terms and to Emma's Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
02What Emma is
Emma is a custom iOS keyboard that turns your spoken voice into written text, with an automatic rewrite pass to clean up filler words, punctuation, and phrasing. It's built for use across languages including English and Afrikaans, and works by sending your dictation to a cloud service we operate to produce the transcript and its polished version.
03Emma Premium & the free trial
Emma's full experience — unlimited, always-polished dictation — requires an Emma Premium subscription:

New users get a free trial: 2 weeks of use, or 40 dictations, whichever you reach first. No payment method is required to start the trial. Once it ends, continuing to use Emma requires subscribing.
- Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID and auto-renew monthly unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
- Manage or cancel anytime in your iPhone's Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Emma has no way to cancel it for you.
- Refunds are handled entirely by Apple under their own refund policy — we can't issue refunds directly.
- Prices may change; we'll give notice before any change affects your renewal.
04Acceptable use
Use Emma the way it's meant to be used. Don't:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the models or infrastructure behind Emma.
- Use Emma to generate or transcribe content that's illegal, harassing, or infringes someone else's rights.
- Attempt to overload, abuse, or gain unauthorized access to Emma's servers.
- Resell, sublicense, or redistribute access to Emma without our written permission.
06No warranty
Emma is provided "as is." Speech transcription and AI-based rewriting aren't perfect — we work to make them accurate and useful, but we don't guarantee that every transcription or polished result will be error-free, or that the service will be available without interruption.
07Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Emma, including inaccurate transcriptions or service interruptions. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited.
08Termination
You can stop using Emma and delete the app at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for anyone who violates these Terms, particularly the Acceptable Use section above.
09Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of South Africa, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where local consumer protection law in your own country gives you rights these Terms can't override.
10Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms as Emma evolves. If a change is significant, we'll flag it in the app before it takes effect.
